November Share The Plate - Faith In Texas

Faith in Texas engages people, communities, and voters through community organizing, civic engagement, and leadership development to create pathways of opportunity for all Texans to thrive. To affect change at the local and state levels, Faith in Texas aims to:

  • Name the lies and false narratives that undergird injustice and threaten our collective power and liberation.

  • Build broad coalitions across race, class, and faith that reflect the many stakeholders in our community to engage in strategic action to dismantle unjust systems

  • Demand accountability and transparency from our public systems and elected officials.

  • Develop a new generation of community leaders and elected officials to establish, protect, and promote community-centered issues, policies, and systems.

  • Pursue and promote grassroots funding.

Faith in Texas envisions a world in which economic, racial, and social equity enables everyone to live in complete liberation to pursue their divine purpose and participate fully in the systems and processes that govern their lives. As long as the Black community is oppressed and under attack, this vision cannot be realized. As faith leaders, we are compelled to take bold action. We are leading our multi-faith, multi-race coalition to be full partners in the movement to divest from white supremacy, as expressed through policing, mass incarceration, and unconscionable violence. If we hope to undo the harm inflicted on Black communities we must instead construct true liberation through housing, jobs, mental health resources, and community-centered response to harm. To accomplish this, we must bring these values to bear in our elections, our city halls and county courts, and during the 2021 Texas Legislative Session.

Horizon has an active team, which works hand-in-hand with Faith In Texas. The team has been training in mobilizing and organizing. Faith in Texas creates space for empathy, storytelling, and shared action across the boundaries of race, religion, and economics.
