December Share the Plate – Our Home, Horizon
One Sunday a month when we have morning worship in the church building, we “share the plate” (STP) or the offering with a community non-profit that shares our values. During this “virtual” time we’ve had monthly STP partners. This month we ask that you share with our home, Horizon. Even though we are not meeting in person, Horizon’s ministry continues. While there are some expenses that will not be spent this year, the majority of Horizon’s budget goes to pay our amazing staff, who are working hard to help us all continue welcoming, loving, growing, and serving together. Horizon’s balance sheet is currently healthy because of your past generosity, but revenues are down. In normal times, the annual total of non-pledge donations placed in the plate on non-STP Sundays is around $15,000. Because we are not physically gathering, the plate is not being passed and so, very few non-pledge donations have been received. Also, we did not hold GALA, our annual fundraiser party, which was budgeted to net $9,000.
So, we are asking that you please consider donating in December what you might have spent at GALA to Horizon’s operating fund. Or give a little extra in December because sometimes you threw a little money in the basket as it went by, even though you’d already made your pledge for the month. Or maybe, this month you just want to give what you can to Horizon. You can give online or mail a check to Horizon—no memo needed.
Each of the last two Decembers we collected for the Minister’s Discretionary Fund (MDF). You gave generously, and this fund is currently very healthy. The MDF allows Reverend Lora to respond in a timely manner to members of the congregation, people from the community, and community organizations in times of need. This December, please consider a donation to Horizon, our home. As always, thank you for your generosity.
