Trans Kids and Families of Texas, and our primary project, DFW Trans Kids was created out of love for our children and shared experience. The group began in 2015, with about five families. Total membership today is up near 1000 with new members joining every week. Members include traditional and non-traditional families with Trans kids and siblings ranging in age from three to forty. Some of our kids have families of their own. We are the largest parental support group of this type in Texas and possibly in the US. Our goal is to continue growing our “family” and to facilitate the creation of similar groups throughout the state. Since obtaining our 501c3 status, we have helped to develop similar groups in Houston, San Antonio, Austin and El Paso. Our families are diverse and we come from all walks of life.

Our purpose is to provide support for families in all stages of transition; to help educate schools and businesses, as well as educate and train other groups and entities in Trans-inclusivity. We currently host monthly virtual support sessions for our member parents of trans children, teens and young adults. We will resume our quarterly family socials as soon as our members feel safe. We provide financial assistance to our members for transition supplies and have set up a fund for members to apply for assistance with rent/utility expenses due to Covid 19 factors. We do provide scholarships to attend conferences and offer financial assistance for gender diverse family camps. Trans Kids and Families of Texas has a scholarship program for Transgender/Non-binary high school graduates in Texas as well as students rising from Freshman to Sophomore year. The scholarship can be used college or trade school.

Our mission statement: Create Community, Provide Support, Educate and Advocate for Inclusivity and Acceptance for ALL Transgender people.

Our youth in the group range from children affirming as young as 6 years old and on up to college ages and beyond. We do have some parents in the group with children who no longer live at home, and whom are starting their own families! Anyone with a transgender or gender non-confirming child is welcome.
