The Share the Plate recipient for August is Bonton Farms. Bonton Farms mission is to transform lives by disrupting systems of inequity, laying a foundation where change yields health, wholeness and opportunity as the norm. Their vision is that the change in Bonton becomes the change in the world. Bonton is a neighborhood in Dallas where for the last 200 years, racial injustice and systemic oppression prevented opportunities that were a given elsewhere. The people here experienced higher rates of diabetes, stroke, and cancer. What started as a farm has grown into an organization addressing nutrition, housing stability, career mentorship, and education. They are working hand-in-hand with the people in Bonton, where many have experienced incarceration, to break the cycle of poverty by sharing optimism, Hope, and opportunities for self-improvement. Learn more at https://bontonfarms.org/. You may GIVE HERE to Bonton Farms by putting Bonton in the additional information box. You may also mail checks to the church made out to Horizon UU Church with Bonton on the memo line any time during the month of August.
