Join us during this weekend retreat where we can throw off responsibilities, relax, and reconnect. The annual event designed for woman-aligned Horizon members and visitors age 21+ is a great place to build friendships! Connect with other women this year as we explore “Nuturing the Spirit”.
The location, Lake Murray Lodge and Cabins, is a wooded area with walking trails and access to the clear waters of Lake Murray in a state park near Ardmore, Oklahoma. It is less than 90 minutes from Horizon. We have access to 3 private one room cabins, seven one bedroom cabins with 2 twin beds, 3 larger cabins, and 8 hotel rooms. All units come with linens provided and in unit bathrooms, refrigerators, and microwaves. The cabins have small ovens but dishes and cookware are not provided. Our meeting space is in the beautiful lodge facility on the lake.
Look for the Women’s Retreat Registration table in the Fellowship Hall before and after service August 11, 18, and 25, and Sept 1 or please register online Aug 9-31. Cost is $115-$345 depending on housing choice (private or shared, cabin or hotel) or $45 for Saturday only with no housing. We don’t want anyone to miss out, financial assistance is available by emailing WomensRetreat@HorizonUU.org. Registration limited to 40 women.

Service Project for Genesis Women’s Shelter
Each year the Horizon Women’s retreat does a service project, and this year we are putting together hygiene kits for the women at Genesis Women’s Shelter. These brave women often have left home with nothing except their children and the clothes on their backs as they escape domestic abuse situations. Genesis gives them a safe place to stay and hope for their future. Here are some of the items we are hoping to collect to put together enough supplies to help 40 women:
Sample sizes of:
shampoo and conditioner
liquid soap like Dove
mild facial cleanser
hand/body lotion
bars of mild soap like Dove/Ivory
deodorant
small packets of wet wipes
toothbrushes and small tubes of toothpaste
tampons (we will divide large boxes into zip lock bags)
sanitary pads (we will divide large boxes)
lip balm such as Chapstick
hair combs or picks
nail clippers, nail scissors, and nail files
New toiletry bags to hold all the above
If you can donate any of these items, there will be a marked container at Horizon through Sunday, September 29. We will assemble them at the retreat.
