UUA General Assembly

Horizon has 5 delegates who will be attending this year’s general assembly (GA) virtually. That means that if you are interested you can join some of the delegates in the Horizon library at various times during the GA to worship, learn, and witness the business of the UUA.

Wednesday June 21

5:30-6:15pm Opening Celebration

6:30-9:00pm General Session 1

General Sessions are for conducting the business of the assembly such as: Electing new UUA president and board, making changes to the UUA bylaws, and voting on social witness statements.

Thursday June 22

1:30-4:30pm General Session 2

6:30-8:30pm Service of the Living Tradition

“Toward Our Metamorphosis into Who Knows What”
This service recognizes religious professionals

The big business at GA this year is the proposed revision to Article 2 of the UUA by-laws.

6:30-7:30pm Ware Lecture – Imani Perry

Imani Perry is the Hughes-Rogers Professor of African American Studies at Princeton University and a faculty associate with Gender and Sexuality Studies and Jazz Studies. This summer she will join the faculty at Harvard University as a Radcliffe Professor. Perry is also a contributing writer for The Atlantic, Perry is the author of seven books, most recently South to America: A Journey Below the Mason-Dixon to Understand the Soul of a Nation (Ecco Books, 2022), which received the 2022 National Book Award for Nonfiction and was an instant New York Times bestseller and Indie bestseller. South to America was named one of President Obama’s favorite books of 2022 and included in numerous end-of-year best-of lists. Her book Breathe: A Letter to My Sons  (Beacon Press, 2019) was a finalist for the 2020 Chautauqua Prize and a finalist for the NAACP Image Award for Excellence in Nonfiction. Breathe was the UU Common Read selection for 2020-21.
